Cruise Planning & Smart Tips

🚢 HOW TO MAKE THE MOST OF EMBARKATION DAY

Your cruise vacation starts the moment you board—not after your luggage arrives! A little planning can help you avoid the crowds and enjoy that first day.

✅ Arrive in the port city a day early. Flights, traffic and unexpected delays can happen. The ship will not wait for late passengers.

✅ Choose an early arrival appointment. Complete online check-in as soon as it opens for the best selection of available times.

✅ Pack a smart carry-on. Keep your travel documents, medications, valuables and anything you may need before dinner with you. Add a swimsuit, sunscreen and closed-toe shoes if you plan to try activities that require them.

✅ Download the cruise line’s app before leaving home. You may need it for your boarding pass, safety briefing, dining reservations and daily schedule.

✅ Put your phone in airplane mode. Do this before the ship leaves port to avoid unexpected cellular roaming charges. You can turn Wi-Fi back on afterward.

✅ Skip the crowded buffet. Check the app to see which casual restaurants or dining rooms are open for embarkation lunch. Availability varies by ship.

✅ Complete your safety requirements early. Take care of the muster drill or safety check as soon as possible so you can relax and enjoy the rest of your afternoon.

✅ Unpack before dinner. Once your luggage arrives, getting organized early makes the cabin feel more comfortable—and you won’t return from dinner and a show to suitcases everywhere.

✅ Visit the kids club open house. Families can register, meet the counselors and help children become comfortable with the space.

✅ Choose your sail-away experience. Join the party on the upper decks or find a quieter spot—and don’t forget those first vacation photos!

Before bringing beverages or purchasing Wi-Fi, drink or dining packages, always check your cruise line’s current rules and prices. Policies and promotions vary.
